SAN MARINO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
INTERDISTRICT
TRANSFER PROCEDURES

(Education Code Sections 46600 and 48201(f))

The following procedures must be followed when requesting an Interdistrict Transfer Permit to attend school in the San Marino Unified School District

  1. Procure an approved interdistrict release (permit) from the student’s district of residency.
  2. The following items are to be submitted to the San Marino Unified School District Office:

·         Signed and approved release from district of residency (applications will not be accepted without a release)

·         San Marino Interdistrict Request Form (PDF) completed and signed.

·         Report card/transcript from the previous school year and current standardized test scores.

·         A brief written statement explaining why you would like to attend San Marino Schools.  Indicate the level of commitment the parent/guardian and student intend to make toward fulfilling obligations of the transfer.

·         Employment-related requests: provide a letter of verification from the parent’s employer verifying employment (this applies only to employees of San Marino Unified School District or the City of San Marino).

  1. When the situation warrants, please supply documentation to support any extenuating circumstances that might apply to the transfer request.
  2. The principal’s office of the appropriate school will contact the parent to arrange an interview.  The student must attend the interview with parent/guardian. Telephone interviews will not be conducted.

*Please be advised that you may not receive a reply to your application for transfer until mid- to late-August, sometimes as late as the first week of school.  We will notify you of the status of your application as soon as possible, but it is necessary to make sure we have space before we can accept interdistrict transfers. Please do not make multiple calls to the District Office or call the school, as this will only slow the process.

  1. When the student is accepted, the parent/guardian and the student must sign the contract at the conclusion of the interview.  This contract will stipulate the conditions of the transfer.
  2. Parents/guardians and student are to be aware that contracts are reviewed at the end of each quarter and/or semester, however the permit may be revoked at any time the contract is violated.
  3. Students will not be admitted if their attendance will incur excess costs on the District.  Should the student later be identified as needing additional services, the student will be transferred back to his/her district of residency.  This includes Special Education services.
  4. Upon acceptance at the appropriate school, the parent/guardian must obtain Registration forms from the District website and follow the instructions on the website.  An appointment is required for registration.
  5. All interdistrict permits are to be renewed each year.
