    • Friendship: What is it and why is it so important?
    • What skills do children need to face social challenges?
    • What can parents do to foster empathy and compassion?
    • How can parents help children develop skills for dealing with the strong emotions related to social aggression?

Dr. Melissa Johnson, psychologist, founder and president of the Institute for Girls’ Development, will address these important questions in her upcoming presentation. She will provide information, practical strategies, tips, and resources of value to parents.

These programs are open to the community. The Valentine and Carver Presentations are available to families with Kindergarten to 5th grade girls. Huntington Middle School Program is open to the community with 6th to 8th grade girls.

    Location: Valentine Little Theater

    PARTNERSHIP FOR AWARENESS PRESENTS:
    WHAT’S A PARENT TO DO?
Top Ten Strategies to help children and teens develop positive friendships and resolve conflicts.
The social world of children is complex! The media tells us about “bullying,” “harassment” and “mean kids.” Our children tell us about conflicts, online bullying, cliques, sometimes belonging, and sometimes getting left out. What can parents do to help children navigate the complicated world of friendship and social relationships?

  • Book Fair Needs Your Help

The Book Fair needs volunteers to work shifts, and to help with set-up and take down. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the PTA Bulletin Board or you can contact the Book Fair Co-Chairs, Donna Balbin (dbalbin@socal.rr.com) and Maria Wilson (wilson9495@sbcglobal.net). WE APPRECIATE ANY TIME YOU CAN SPARE!

This year Carver is hosting only ONE Book Fair, which will take place from November 16th through November 20th (with set-up on Friday, November 13th).

The Book Fair is intended to promote reading and enhance your child’s classroom library, as well as the Carver Library, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Candace Moreno, of San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe, will be holding her invaluable “Book Talk” detailing the latest and hottest releases. “Family Night” promises good food, music, and exciting exploits through storytelling.
